Okay so this isn’t going to be too harsh of an UnFashion post, this is more so me bitching and moaning about design. Tattoo art on skate decks is nothing new. Step into almost any tattoo shop around North America and ask any artist if they’ve painted a skateboard and I’m sure eight times out of ten you’ll get a yes. Most of them to me are hit or miss, just like tattoo artists, the original art they produce is sometimes just lacking to me. There is only so much you can do with flash and old school inspired tattoo designs.
Anyways this is getting off topic. Baker has released their newest rider series decks with images of old water colour looking tattoo flash, these decks are clean and simple, and I actually kind of like a few. Unfortunately at the bottom of each deck is stamped a huge Baker logo that completely ruins the flow of each deck. I know I’m being way too critical here, they’re just skate decks. But they had a nice idea, one that for the most part was executed really well, it’s just that last ten percent, that for me ruined the whole piece. Oh well, they’re out now and you can pick them up at your favourite skate shop or at Baker’s site.
Check out more of the designs up close after the break.
